A famous example of this would be the ear scene in Reservoir Dogs. The scene includes a gory shot in which a police mans ear is cut off. To juxtapose this shot the score "stuck in the middle with you" by Stealers Wheels played. This score is very upbeat and energetic which is ironic as the scene is the opposite.

Contripuntal Sound
Contrapuntal sound is a term used to describe sounds and soundtracks that we would not necessarily associate with the visual shots shown on the screen. For example if a happy upbeat soundtrack was used in a death scene, this would be contrapuntal sound. The use of contrapuntal sound in films allows an ironic tone to the scene and can transmit a different tone and atmosphere to the audience.
